Leadership Team Overview
Engineers for a Sustainable World, ESW, is a growing collection of technically-minded people
looking to make the world a better a place.
Our work includes everything from a self-contained living unit and design studio for mobile deployment in disaster relief areas, to a solar charging station on campus for student and faculty use, to a hydroponic system for a local food pantry to produce low-cost food for the community. place. Most of ESW's impact comes from projects done by its 50 college-based chapters.
Our general requirements, regardless of position, are as follows:
- You need to be passionate about sustainability and agree with our mission, vision, and values.
- You do need to be able to commit time to the organization, including regular conference calls. We find that in order to be effective, most positions require 5-10hrs/week on average, fluctuating by season.
- Proactiveness is important for the digital environment that we work in.
- You don't have to be familiar with ESW-HQ - we're friendly people, and we'd love to meet you.
About working with ESW
We accept applicants from all over the country. ESW volunteers work in a digital environment. We use Slack, Google Suite, and Zoom to communicate with each other. If you aren't familiar with these technologies, no worries! We'd love to teach you.
How to Apply
You can apply to any of the positions below by sending a cover letter and resume to email@example.com.
Chapter Relations Department
Chapter Relations Coordinator
Chapter Relations Coordinators (CRCs) are the main connection between chapters and
ESW-Headquarters. They work closely with chapter leaders to ensure effective communication and collaboration between chapters, make sure that chapters know about current ESW-HQ initiatives, and help chapters deal with strategic challenges. CRCs work together with the CR Director to ensure HQ is well-informed and able to connect with chapters regularly and frequently, and that chapters are receiving all appropriate information and updates from the HQ. Becoming a CRC is a natural step for chapter leaders that want to move up a level and help share their knowledge with more schools!
Since it’s the CRC’s job to maintain consistent and open communication with chapters, we look for sociable candidates to be able to drive that consistent communication.
Communications and Technology Department
Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator
The Public Relations and Marketing (PR&M) Coordinator develops and maintains external communications, ensuring consistent, regular, and effective content reaches outside of the existing ESW network. This is a new leadership role; they will be able to shape it as they see fit. The PR&M Coordinator ensures that new information about ESW’s programs is well-written and is tailored to the right audiences. They also help other team members in preparing written materials for both internal and external purposes. Finally, they will occasionally be asked to represent ESW at public events as available and appropriate and act as the public face of ESW for general inquiries.
The events department is in charge of supporting and planning the annual conference. The team is currently comprised of the events director and an events coordinator. The two work closely together to ensure that the host chapter is well supported. ESW-HQ is in charge of extensive marketing strategy and all financial attributes. The director and coordinators will develop theme and workshops, find speakers, and handle all logistical planning.
The Fundraising Coordinator plays a vital role in raising money for the organization. We prefer applications with nonprofit fundraising experience, but we would be happy to teach you if you are passionate about raising money for good causes. Work as a Fundraising Coordinator could entail anything from prospecting major donors to working with companies to forge corporate sponsorships.
